What Inspires A Story

Recently I did a guest blog post about what inspired me to write The Nutt Family:  An Acorny Adventure.  It was thrilling that my book was nominated to be featured by This Kid Reviews Books.  I hope you’ll check out the full article here on Randomize Me.

Let me start off by saying that fall is by far my favorite season of the year. Thanksgiving is my holiday. I seriously wonder sometimes if it was invented just for me. I love to cook this gigantic meal and surround myself with family. That is my idea of heaven. My family can attest to the fact that I am a fall freak! It is no surprise to them that I wrote a children’s story about one of the symbols of fall…….acorn nuts.

This story took shape in the fall of 2009. My two children and I were out in our backyard gathering acorns to use to decorate our mantle and dining room table. It’s funny how a handful of nuts can inspire us.

Ebook Sales Surge for Children’s/YA in 2012

I came across this really cool article on GeekDad that was posted in April.  It talks about the increase in ebook sales for children’s/YA from 2011 to 2012.  There was a 475% increase over this period…..WOW!  I know some kids have their own ereaders, but I’m sure parents and grandparents are loading up their ereader devices too to get kids reading while traveling, running errands, etc.  This is an incredible time to be a children’s book author and I’m proud that we are reaching so many children with our books.

This is great news and certainly something to celebrate!  Reading is so important so encourage your kids to read a book today whether paperback or in electronic form.
